The Quantock Education Project (QED)
The Quantock Education Project (QEd) was a 3-year schools project ran by the Quantock Hills AONB Service, starting in 2002 and continuing until March 2005. The aims were to:
- Raise awareness of the special character of the Quantock Hills AONB
- Build on the schools work already being undertaken by the AONB team
- Work with Quantock schools to:
- Develop relevant teaching activities and resources
- Set up and run FREE schools fieldwork each year
- Provide FREE teacher training opportunities
- Create a QED website for pupils and teachers
- Provide a FREE resource folder to every Quantock school
The AONB Service has a long tradition of working with schools and other groups to promote environmental education, so this project was built on solid foundations, backed up by a wealth of detailed knowledge and expertise about the Hills. The 1999 Quantock Hills Strategy has a chapter on Education and Information and the QEd project answers a number of important Action Points from this chapter.
