  • A serious-looking Victorian stone angel: most of Nether Stowey church was rebuilt in the 19th century…
  • …and this inscription tells you how it was all paid for. Prices have changed since then!
  • They kept the original 500-year-old octagonal stone font,(but the cover looks new.)
  • This fine carved bird looking at the Christmas flowers is actually a lectern, or reading desk. On it is a large Bible. Eagle-lecterns are common in churches. The eagle is the symbol for St John, who wrote the four gospels included in the Bible.
  • This memorial tells the story of a very special Quantock person, Tom Poole. The people of Nether Stowey were very proud of him and all the good things he did. Look in the churchyard for more evidence about the Poole family.
