Soils of the Southern Hills
The Southern Quantock Hills look different from the Northern hills. The slopes are gentler and the soil is different too. It is a brown earth that holds water and is quite fertile. Because the fields are flatter, the farmers have more choices: they can plough the land and grow crops, or leave it as pasture.
